Passion for God for Soaring

Isaiah 40 does not promise young people an easy run. It says plainly that even the youth shall faint, so the question is not whether you will be drained but what you will do when you are. The minister answered it out of his own story: a first generation believer prayed into Christ by an elderly mother, disinherited by his family, sleeping on someone's floor, yet something kept him going. That something is passion, an intense desire that drives you toward a purpose, an inner fire that refuses to settle for mediocrity. Champions are not the people who never fall, he said, but the people who refuse to stay on the ground when they do. Passion on its own is not enough, though. It has to be directed, and passion for God has to sit above every other passion, because a vision that does not align with divine purpose will not carry divine energy. He proved love for God by love for what God loves most, souls, the way Jesus pressed Peter three times to feed the sheep. Then he named four arenas to burn in, passion for God, for souls, for fellowship, and to please God as a lifestyle, before giving four ways to keep the fire alive: build the altar of prayer the way Elijah did, search the scriptures for fresh revelation, stay in the assembly, and be a blessing to somebody.

Engaging the Power of Praise for Soaring High

The second message of the morning started from Psalm 67, where the people praise and then the earth yields her increase. If God's blessing is what you came for, the minister said, praise has to be what you want. He built the whole message on atmosphere. God made water before fish and air before birds, and Eden before man, and man is the only creature that lost its atmosphere. Praise is how you get back in, because you enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise. He defined praise as appreciating God for His past acts, prevailing circumstances notwithstanding, and pointed to Habakkuk's stubborn yet: no fruit on the vine, nothing in the stalls, yet I will rejoice. From there came seven things praise does. It invites God's presence, since in prayer angels show up but in praise God Himself comes down. It hands your battle over to God, as with Jehoshaphat, who did not know what to do and praised anyway while God set ambushes. It irrigates a stalled vision, opens the atmosphere for direction and revelation, breaks chains and barriers, releases the joy that is your strength, and preserves what God has given, because nothing decays in His presence. He closed by naming murmuring, pride and ingratitude as the enemies of praise, and gave two practical habits: start every day with praise, and fill your ears with godly songs.

The Sacrifice of Praise

All Nations Praise Night was mostly worship, ministrations and testimonies, but before the final praise the minister paused everything to open 2 Samuel 6 and explain what the church was about to do. David's first attempt to bring the ark home ended in disaster because Uzzah reached out to steady it, and the charge to the youth was blunt: when praise is in place, do not try to help God. David abandoned the ark at the house of Obed-Edom, a man nobody had heard of, and in three months that unknown household was so blessed that the king came back for it. The second time, the ark came up differently, with sacrifice, with dancing and with singing. That, he said, is the sacrifice of praise, and it is why every delegate had been handed an expectation card. Write what only God can do, then sing it in advance the way Hezekiah sang his songs. When Michal despised David for dancing without dignity, David answered that he would be even more vile than that, and she was barren to her death. Engage in the sacrifice of praise, he charged, and watch God deal with your enemies. The service closed from 1 Kings 8 with a declaration that every request dropped in the ark would return as a testimony.
